Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has sent a warning to traders and residents after his latest crackdown on illegal dumping along Jogoo Road.
In a statement, Mosiria said the County government conducted an operation to identify and arrest individuals involved in illegal dumping along the busy road.
I led an enforcement operation along Jogoo Road where we arrested traders involved in illegal dumping. Jogoo Road traders have become notorious for unlawful waste disposal, often choosing not to pay for garbage collection and proper disposal services.
Mosiria said his department will focus on enforcing the rules against illegal dumping since the laws, advisories, and engagements are not taken seriously.
Nairobi County Officials Arrest 10 People
He revealed that the county officers arrested 10 people involved in illegal dumping along Jogoo Road on September 30, 2025.
“In our efforts to keep Nairobi clean, I have come to the realization that sensitization, engagement, and continuous advisories on proper waste management are not yielding the desired results. What will work more effectively is strict enforcement,” he said.
“This morning, we arrested 10 individuals directly involved in illegal dumping, including one notorious street man who is often used by traders to dispose of waste in exchange for a few coins or food.”

Warning to Nairobi Traders and Residents
Mosiria warned that the County government will continue conducting the crackdowns until the illegal dumping menace comes to an end.
He explained that the goal of the exercise is not to punish traders but to ensure the cleanliness of Nairobi City County.
We shall sustain this exercise until full compliance is achieved. Enforcement is not meant to punish but to protect the health, dignity, and cleanliness of our city. I will personally camp along Jogoo Road for the next one week to ensure this menace is fully addressed and compliance is achieved.
