Nairobi City’s County Council officers (askari kanjo) appear to have devised a new method of dealing with car owners who illegally park on the city’s pavements.
In a recently shared video by Kenya’s Sikika ROAD Safety, one of the county council officers is seen spraying a Mercedes-Benz E220’s windscreen using red paint and scribbling on it,
“REMOVE. 13.11.2025. N.C.C.G”
The officer is visibly in the company of some colleagues as he is audibly heard asking them to confirm the day’s dates, which he proceeds to write on the car.

The Kenyan-based road safety awareness campaign and organization captioned the video by calling on the county boss, Sakaja Johnson, to address the issue of how his askaris handle some situations, as what they were doing and are often seen doing seems offensive and may become a rift-causing element between the county workers and vehicle operators in the town.
“What your askaris are doing is not right. If this issue is not addressed, it will create a very serious enmity between drivers and your kanjo. You can’t spray someone’s vehicle windscreen because we have many sober ways to handle issues,” read the caption.

Social users who saw the trending video reacted in both supportive and opposing ways.
Fred Githinji, a top fan of the online organization, responded, “Let everyone abide to the law, if only systems can be adopted to avoid creating legal gaps. Private property needs to be respected and there exist standards in the department on how to address issues.”
“This is good. In most estates in Nairobi, People have converted roads to long-term parking for vehicles with breakdowns,” Reuben Wafula supported the action.
Most Facebook users seemed displeased with the officer’s actions and rebuked them by posting responses that suggest uncouth behaviors from the council officers for a long time, which seem not to have been addressed accordingly.
“Ndio maana hakuna siku raya wataelewana n kanjo heri police. Then we need county breakdown not zile zimejaa koja kuvuta gari zetu,” Aggrey Isaac
Daggy Nyach Marlay cited this as a criminal offence, with a feeling that the officer’s job was bound to come to an end and make his family suffer for what he calls people-pleasing.

This case comes months after the city officers were caught in multiple problems involving clamping people’s vehicles and asking for high charges to have them released, sexual harassment, among others.
Recently, an officer was pulled out of a vehicle by angry passengers for allegedly demanding a “piece of meat” from them to be allowed passage, adding to the increased cases of matatu bribery and extortion.
In a viral video posted on X, enraged commuters confronted and physically removed him, decrying it as a form of normalized corruption.
