A newspaper vendor in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), Pius Wanjala Wekesa, has been missing for six weeks now. The 54-year-old Daily Nation Newspaper vendor went missing on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
According to a notice published on Tuesday, March 11, in the dailies, Pius Wekesa was last seen by his colleagues while closing his magazine and newspaper stand outside Kimathi House in Nairobi at about 5 p.m.

He would then head to his home in Kawangware, Dagorretti Nort Sub-County, but reports indicate that he did not get home.

Wekesa was dressed in a blue long-sleeved shirt and a black coat, a grey trouser and black shoe.

Individuals with information about his whereabouts have been asked to reach out to his children Norah Wekesa through the mobile number 0743 938547 or Davis Wekesa via 0714 508584.
They can also report to the nearest police station.

The news comes amidst a rise in cases of missing persons, casting a dark shadow over the country’s top police leadership.
Increased Cases of Abduction in Kenya
This has eroded public trust and raised serious concerns about accountability and justice.
Some of those going missing have either returned alive or dead.
Dela Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Tolfiyo, who went missing in September 2024, was found alive on Saturday March 8.
A relative of the MCA narrated that he was being held incommunicado in the same structure with the Kitengela three who went missing were Jamil Longton, Aslam Longton, and Bob Njagi.
The family member alleged that Yussuf was being detained in a torture chamber adjacent to a room which was housing the missing Kitengela three who were later released.
He also stated that his abductors dropped him at Pangani shopping center at around 9.30 pm and gave him five thousand shillings.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) in December 26 released disturbing data indicating that 82 people have been reported abducted since June 2024 protests, with at least 29 missing.
From September 2023 to August 2024, Kenya recorded a 44% increase in abductions compared to the same period the previous year, according to the national security report.
Officials reported 52 abductions during this time, up from 36 the previous year.
