Fresh details have emerged over the wife of a middle-aged man who allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze inside his house in Chuna Street in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
Residents of the area were on Wednesday, March 27,2024 left in shock following the bizarre incident where the man released cooking gas inside his bungalow before lighting a matchbox. The fire partially burnt the house and killed him.
Police are investigating the whereabouts of the deceased’s wife who is reported to have left with him on March 24, 2024, to an unknown location.
According to a police report, the deceased left with his wife only for him to return on Wednesday midnight without her before going on to commit the harrowing act.
The man’s house help told the authorities that after returning home, the man went straight to his bedroom before waking up a few hours later.

Upon waking up at about 4:00 a.m, the report indicated that the man ordered his house help to leave the house immediately since he did not want to harm her.

In addition, the house help said that the deceased was bleeding profusely after he allegedly stabbed himself several times on the chin, abdomen and the chest at that time.
The domestic worker fearing for her life took her belongings and left before hearing an explosion coming from the house ten minutes later at around 6:30 a.m.
Police officers who arrived at the scene following the explosion were met with a cloud smoke billowing from the house.

Additionally, property of an unknown value was reduced to ashes as the firefighters who rushed to the scene tried to salvage what they could.
The man’s body on the other hand was burnt beyond recognition with two empty gas cylinders found alongside the body in one of the bedrooms.
According to police, the gas cylinders are suspected to have been used by the deceased to ignite the fire which led to his demise.
The deceased’s body was later moved to Shalom Mortuary in Nairobi awaiting postmortem as the whereabouts of his wife remain unknown.
Suicide case
Meanwhile, another suicide incident involving a university student on March 27 was reported at Raila village in Langata constituency.
According to a police report, the 22-year-old student at Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) killed himself after losing his school fee to a betting scheme.
The deceased is reported to have placed Ksh15,000 bet, which was supposed to be his fees, with the hope of earning more cash.
However, the deal hit a dead end which led to the victim up locking himself inside his house and committing the act.
According to Muguimoini area chief George Mukuria, police officers arrived on Wednesday evening to assess the scene before taking the body to the City Mortuary pending an autopsy.
