Noordin Haji was sworn in as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) on Wednesday, June 14 at State House Nairobi.
Haji took the oath of office at a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto and other government officials, among them Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
“I have full confidence that with the experience you have gathered over the years, having worked in the intelligence service for many years and in other senior government positions such as the DPP, you have assembled knowledge and experience to be able to discharge your responsibility,” Ruto said.
President Ruto nominated Noordin Haji who was serving as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) since July 2021 for the National Intelligence Service position on May 16.

The National Assembly’s Defence and Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, June 13 approved Noordin Haji’s nomination to serve as NIS Director General.
Haji has previously served in the National Intelligence Service as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organized Crime Unit. Nonetheless, the former DPP comes in replacing Philip Kameru who held the position for over eight years.

Who is Noordin Haji
Born in July 1973, Noordin Haji is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He was admitted to the Bar in the year 1999.
Haji, a son of the late veteran politician and minister Yusuf Haji attended Kabarak High and Greensteds International School in Nakuru
He further proceeded to the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK where he obtained an LLM and LLB.
In addition, Haji holds an MNSPO (master’s degree in National Security Policy) with merit from Australian National University and a post-graduate diploma from the Kenya School of law.
His father was a career civil servant and long serving politician while his mother was a high school teacher.

Haji served as the Director of Public Prosecutions for the six years.
Before becoming the DPP, he served as Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service.
Haji joined the Public Service in January 2000, working at the Attorney General’s Office
His appointment came following the Retirment of Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru.
