The wife of Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has revealed that she has set her eyes at being Kenya’s fastest woman in the women’s 100 meters race.
Speaking to an NTV reporter on Friday, February 24, Laventa Omanyala said her motivation comes from her husband who set the African record during the Kip Keino Classic games held at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi back in 2022.
“I am targeting to become the fastest woman in Kenya,” Laventa said. She added that her motivation comes from the success of her husband, who recently set a new national and African 60m record of 6.54 seconds.
“Seeing how he is doing is motivating me. They say charity begins at home, my motivation comes from home,” she said

Omanyala’s wife has participated in several competitions, with her best time being 12 seconds. She also doubles in the long jump and has participated in several competitions.
Both Laventa and Omanyala train together and have the same coach. Omanyala attributes his success on the track to hard work and having a supportive wife by his side.
Last week, Omanyala ran a national record of 6.55 in Mondeville, his third stop of the Indoor season, but he has now chalked it off some more. He comes back home with his confidence sky-high and motivation on top of his game ahead of the start of the outdoor tour with the Nairobi leg of the Athletics Kenya meets coming up at the end of the month.
Over 1,500 athletes are taking part in the Athletics Kenya meet, which is being held today and tomorrow at the Nyayo National Stadium.
