The State Department of Internal Security and National Administration has announced a change in protocol for accessing Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) during the ongoing Africa Climate Summit 2023.
Through a statement released on Tuesday, September 5, State Department Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo stated that the change in protocol came after a routine review of the security arrangements.
“Following a routine review of the security arrangements for the ongoing Africa Climate Summit 2023 at the KICC, the Security, Protocol, and Accreditation Sub- Committee wishes to inform the distinguished delegates about changes to the protocols for accessing the venue,” the statement seen by The Kenya Times reads in part.
The Changes in Protocol for Accessing KICC
Moreover, in the changes, the PS noted that access to Tsavo Ballroom, Aberdares and Lenana will only be granted to accredited delegates.

As such, PS Omollo directed that the rest of the delegates access the venue through the entrance along Parliament Road.
Similarly, all ministers both local and foreign, principal secretaries and diplomatic corps will now access the Africa Climate Summit venue through the entrance along Harambee Avenue.
The State Department of Internal Security and National Administration PS added that all presidential motorcades will now access KICC via the entrance along the City Hall way.
“All presidential motorcades will access the venue through the entrance along the City Hallway,” the PS noted.
Further, the PS stated announced that the changes will take place with immediate effect.
“The changes take effect immediately and the delegates and their entourage are advised to take note and adhere to the new protocols to avoid unnecessary delays, inconveniences and jam-ups at the entrance,” he said.

He affirmed that there will be security officers and traffic marshals to assist delegates attending the Africa Climate Summit at KICC.
“Our security officers and traffic marshals will be available along the access roads to provide the necessary support and/or direction,” PS Omollo stated.
Nevertheless, President William Ruto opened the three-day summit on Monday, September 4.
Delegates from around Africa are participating in the climate change summit alongside delegates from within the country.
