Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at the possibility of working with President William Ruto under certain circumstances.
Speaking during a media interview on Monday, June 30, 2025, Kalonzo said he would be open to dialogue with President Ruto if political tensions in the country escalate.
He also emphasized that any talks with the President would have to take place on their own terms, not President Ruto’s.
“But not them, if it gets to that. And we must have neutral arbiters. Ruto cannot be the one to call people to the table. We have to look for people like the African Union who can say, ‘Okay, there is enough trouble, and all indicators in Kenya show a lack of trust, making peace uncertain,’” said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo Reveals Situation He Can Work with Ruto
Additionally, Kalonzo said he would not accept individuals like former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to lead dialogue efforts in Kenya, claiming that Obasanjo is not neutral. He cited past experiences such as the NADCO talks, where he was excluded from negotiations between Raila and Ruto.
“If there are signs that Kenya is heading toward unrest, then prepare eminent personalities—but not Obasanjo this time. Obasanjo is the one who sat with Ruto and Raila in Mombasa. Raila then came back here and told us his version of events. People who should lead such efforts, for instance, could be from the church—like the Catholic Church—which has a firm stance and can say, ‘Let’s now have a neutral forum,’” Kalonzo said.

At the same time, the Wiper Party Leader firmly stated that he cannot be influenced by the former Prime Minister to join President Ruto’s camp.
“Many people think that Kalonzo can be persuaded by Raila to join Ruto—let them forget it completely! I will be where the people are, and I have realized this is the best way to go about it,” added Kalonzo.
Kenya Kwanza leaders Woo Wiper Leader to Join Ruto’s Camp
For some time, Kenya Kwanza leaders have tried to convince Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join President William Ruto’s government before the 2027 elections. However, Kalonzo has turned down these offers, citing differences in beliefs and moral concerns.
During visits to the Ukambani region in June 2025, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki publicly asked Kalonzo to reconsider abandoning the opposition. He praised Kalonzo’s leadership and mentioned that a significant role could be available for him.

Other Kenya Kwanza leaders, such as Farouk Kibet, have also called for Kalonzo to join, suggesting a “big role” could await him.
