The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced an eight- hour traffic disruption along Mombasa Road this weekend, affecting motorists.
In a notice, the authority stated that the disruption will occur at a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Junction Road, which will experience traffic from Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10: 00 pm to Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 6: 00 am.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A 8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi- bound lanes from Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10: 00 pm to Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 6: 00 am,” read part of the statement.

According to the authority, this move is intended to facilitate the installation of fabricated footbridge beams.

Additionally, in the notice, the authority advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan indicated in the notice and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on-site.

A detailed map included in the notice highlights affected routes, closed points, and diversion paths to assist drivers in navigating the temporary changes. Key landmarks such as Syokimau, Katani, and Mlolongo are part of the affected section of the road.

A Section of Thika Road Closed
The notice follows days after the authority announced a temporary closure of a section of the Thika Superhighway (S 1).
The authority, in a Thursday, April 10, statement, indicated that the highway would be closed at the Kihunguro area to facilitate critical highway maintenance works.

The closure began on the night of Friday, April 11, 2025, and ran through to the morning of Monday, April 14, 2025.
According to KeNHA, the renovations were intended to improve the highway’s durability and safety.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption following the closure of a section of Thika Superhighway (S 1) Road at Kihunguro, from Friday, April 11, 2025, to Monday, April 14, 2025, between 2300 hrs to 0400 hrs.
“This is to allow for highway maintenance works along the section,” read the statement.
