The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has warned Kenyans of two companies issuing fake certificates in the country.
These companies, which go by MQA Certification Kenya Ltd and MQA Certification UK Ltd, purport to have been approved by the agency to issue certificates.
“It has come to our attention that entities going by the name MQA Certification Kenya Ltd and MQA Certification UK Ltd are purporting to have been approved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) to issue the certifications in Kenya,” read part of the notice issued by the agency.
“Please note that KEBS has not issued any such approval and is not affiliated with these entities in any way. The false statements, therefore, must be read as a manifest intention to defraud the public.”
KEBS Warning to the Public
KEBS also cautioned Kenyans against engaging with the said entities regarding any certification services provided by the agency.
Furthermore, the organization advised any person seeking certification in Kenya to visit the KEBS website; www.kebs.org or KEBS offices across the country for necessary information.
Additionally, Kenyans were asked to verify the authenticity of KEBS quality marks by using the KEBS Official Mobile App or sending a text to 20023 SM# Permit Number/ISM#UCR Number/DM#Permit Number.
KEBS implements an Anti-bribery Management Policy accessible through KEBS Website www.kebs.org.

Alert on Fraudsters
On November 8, the Kenya Bureau of Standards issued a fraud alert on the MQA certification Kenya Limited company.

“Beware of fraudsters using the Kenya Bureau of Standards logo without authorization to conduct certification. Kenya Bureau of Standards operates and communicates only through the official website and social media accounts,” the statement clarified.
In addition, the agency urged Kenyans to report any suspicious activities to its toll-free line 1545 during working hours, Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 1 pm and 2 pm – 5 pm or reach them through their email at info@kebs.org or md@kebs.org
