Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was forced to postpone his caretaker’s burial as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited his home amid pending investigations into the deceased’s death.
Khalwale’s caretaker identified as Mzee Moi Kizito Amukune, succumbed to injuries after allegedly being attacked by the Senator’s fighter bull on January 28, 2024.
However, the Kakamega senator in a statement on January 31 noted that he had been forced to postpone the caretaker’s burial as detectives visited the scene to conduct investigations.
“Following wild, baseless, and false claims by some pseudo politicians in Kakamega, I’ve today been forced to indefinitely postpone the burial of my trusted fighter bull caretaker,” said Khalwale.

The senator’s remarks come following allegations from a section of Kakamega politicians who came out to demand investigations into the death.
Khalwale Called Out
Kakamega tycoon and Kakamega Homeboyz FC boss Cleophas Shimanyula urged law enforcers to conduct a thorough investigation into the perplexing and tragic incident.
In a statement on January 30, 2024, he accused the Kakamega Senator of possibly being involved in Moi’s death.
“He has been claiming in the media and on online platforms that the bull killed the worker. However, there are reports, which I can’t confirm as true, that Khalwale is involved in the murder,” Shimanyula told reporters.

Responding to the allegations, Khalwale noted that he has already opened up his home to the police to afford them an opportunity to make credible and conclusive investigations into the death.
“Meanwhile, today, I hosted a team of DCI detectives at my Malinya Home for a thorough fact-finding mission over the unfortunate demise of the late Kizito Moi Amukune,” said Khalwale.
He added that the burial plans will continue after the detectives have come into conclusion of the investigations.
Bull Attacks Caretaker
In an earlier interview, the Kakamega Senator narrated how the bull killed his longtime caretaker at his Kakamega home.
According to him, the caretaker came into the homestead drunk, implying that he must have been indulging in busaa, a locally brewed drink.
Upon his arrival, the bull mistook the busaa scent with that of molasses and started running towards him.
Then the man, frightened by the charging bull, tried to defend himself by hitting back, a move the Senator said provoked the mammal.
According to the Senator, a fighter bull, if threatened, resorts to defending itself. On the fateful day, the bull took on Khalwale’s caretaker leaving him with injuries which later proved fatal.

He said the bull’s horns pierced into the caretaker’s chin in one of the observed injuries from the attack.
“I paid him yesterday. He came drunk and usually the scent of busaa is similar to that of molasses, so the bull ran towards him,” Khalwale explained.
Following the tragic incident, the Senator was forced to spear the bull named Inasio which was one of his favorite bulls, a move which he said was in line with the Luhya culture.
