President William Ruto led Kenya Kwanza leaders in mourning the father of the Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, Isaac Ngugi, who passed away on Thursday morning, September 4, 2025, while sleeping at the age of 105.
In a statement dated Friday, September 5, 2025, the Head of State eulogized the Kikuyu MP’s father as an industrious and astute businessman and one of the pioneers who founded Kikuyu Town.
“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah. He was an industrious and astute businessman and one of the brains that founded Kikuyu Town,” President Ruto mourned.
The Head of State also mourned Isaac Ngugi as a man who touched many lives through his numerous transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable, adding that his legacy will live on.
Ruto Mourns Ichung’wah’s Father
Besides President Ruto, other Kenya Kwanza leaders have paid tribute to Kimani Ichung’wah’s father, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
In his tribute, Wetang’ula described Mzee Ngugi, who passed away peacefully at his Kikuyu home aged 105, as a man whose long and remarkable life was worth celebrating. He noted that Mzee Ngugi’s enduring legacy and the memories of his century-long journey will continue to inspire and be cherished for generations.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the Kikuyu MP and Leader of Majority, Hon. @KIMANIICHUNGWAH, following the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi.
May the fond memories of his century-long journey bring comfort to his family during this time of grief,” said Wetangula.

ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo described Ichung’wah’s father as a man who lived a truly remarkable life, a noble elder, a pillar of wisdom, and an inspiration to many.
“On my own behalf and that of my family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Hon. Ichung’wah and his family. May Mzee’s legacy live on and his soul rest in eternal peace,” said William Kabogo.
Other Leaders Pay Tribute to Kikuyu MP’s Father
On her part, UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire mourned the Majority leader’s father as a person who lived a remarkable life, was a beacon of wisdom, strength, and inspiration, whose legacy of faith, resilience, and love will forever be cherished.
“On my own behalf and the people of Embu County, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Hon. Ichung’wah and his family. May you find comfort in the treasured memories you shared, and may Mzee’s soul rest in eternal peace,” Mbarire mourned.

Mzee Ngugi passed away peacefully in his sleep at the family home in Kikuyu early Thursday morning.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the death in an official communication to legislators.
He noted that Mzee Ngugi had been admitted to Karen Hospital for a week before being discharged the previous week.
“The family has initiated funeral arrangements. Hon Members may pay their condolences to the family starting Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Other details, including the requiem mass and interment date for the late Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi, will follow shortly,” Wetang’ula said.
