The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) has appointed KTN journalist Queenter Mbori as its Executive Director.
AMWIK in a statement on May 3, 2024, announced the appointment of Mbori following the exit of former director Patience Nyange.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Queenter Mbori as Executive Director for AMWIK effective 1st May 2024,” read part of the statement.
According to AMWIK, the appointment follows a rigorous and competitive hiring process.
The association, while announcing the appointment, described Mbori as a celebrated advocate of gender equality, noting that she brings a wealth of experience and passion to AMWIK.
“She is an award-winning multimedia journalist, mentor, and certified media trainer. Her expertise spans sustainable journalism, gender-sensitive storytelling, and amplifying the voices of marginalized groups,” said AMWIK.
Quenteer Mbori
The seasoned journalist joined the Standard Group in April 2014 as a Chief sub-editor, a position she held up to March 2021.

Mbori is the current president of the Standard Group Women Network (SGWN), a position she has held from October 2018.
SGWN is a professional network that seeks to articulate the voice of women at the workplace and position them for leadership and greater responsibilities.
According to her profile, the network has recorded significant milestones under her leadership which include recruitment, career progression and development of staff.
Among other achievements highlighted by Mbori include the enhancement of Staff welfare, Zero tolerance to sexual harassment and Balanced editorial coverage.
Prior to her joining the Standard Group, she had held Editorial positions at Tanzanian publications Bang Magazine in 2011 and Mwananchi Communications Limited from 2011 to 2014.

At Standard Group, Mbori held the position of Chief sub-editor till March 2021 when she started working as a TV Presenter for the Kenya Television Network (KTN).
At the same, she was promoted as a deputy digital editor, a role she has held up to March 2024.
Career & Education
Queenter is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Woman Kenya Network (WOKN), a distinguished niche digital media company committed to advancing gender equality and promoting women’s empowerment.
She holds a Bachelor of Education (BEd) in English Language and Literature from Moi University and certificates from Fray College (Media Mangaement and Mass Communication), The Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) and the Media Council of Kenya (MCK)
Her appointment as the head of AMWIK comes after former director Patience Nyange left the association following her appointment as the new spokesperson of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Nyange had held the post since November 2022.
