President Wiliam Ruto has made leadership changes in two state entities. Ruto in a gazette notice dated January 28, 2025, revoked the appointment of Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya Board Chairperson Joe Owaka Ager.
Ager had been appointed to the company after President Ruto revoked his appointment as the chairperson of the National Mining Corporation in 2023.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Joe Owaka Ager as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, with effect from the 31st January, 2025,” reads part of the notice.
While revoking Ager’s appointment as the chairperson of the National Mining Corporation in a gazette notice issued in December 2023, Ruto appointed Joseph Lagat as his replacement. He was to serve until October 5, 2024.
Ruto revokes appointment of Mwandia
At the same time, Ruto has revoked the appointment of Kiemi Mwandia as a Member of Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board.
According to the gazette notice dated January 31, 2025, the revocation took effect immediately.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, 1, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of- KIEMA MWANDIA (DR.) as a Member of Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board, with effect from the 31st January 2025,” the notice adds.

Following the revocation of Mwandia’s appointment, Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa appointed Nicholas Wambua Muthangya to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency.
Muthangya will serve from January 31, 2025, for a period of three years.
In another appointment, Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano has appointed Nancy Waturi Mathenge to be a member of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Trustees, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from January 31, 2025.
Consequently, the appointments of Peter Fredrick Moll and Edward Norton have been revoked.
Cabinet Secretaries make appointments
Education CS Julius Ogamba on his part has revoked the appointment of Bob Ndubi as a member of the Council of Kisii University, with effect from the January 31, 2025.

Other Cabinet Secretaries who have made appointments include Wycliffe Oparanya (MSMEs) and Soipan Tuya (Defence).
Oparanya appointed Martha Wanjiru Miano as a member of the Board of Directors of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority, for a period of three years.
The appointment of Adan Sheikh Abdullahi was in turn revoked.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 30 (1) (g) (1) (bb) of the Micro and Small Enterprises Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development appoints MARTHA WANJIRU MIANO as a member of the Board of Directors of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 31st January, 2025,” reads the notice.
CS Tuya, on her part, has appointed Col. (Dr.) C. O. Ondego, Col. S. C. Yator, Col. (Rtd.) L. L. Muluvi, Col. (Rtd.) M. M. Nchuurai and Elly Onger to be members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Pension Appeals Committee, for a period of three years, effective January 31, 2025.
