The Standard Group has announced the appointment of Chaacha Mwita as the company’s Chief Executive Editor (CEE).
In a statement on Thursday, April 3, media, Standard Group CEO Marion Mwangi disclosed that Chaacha will be responsible for all content production divisions.

“The Standard Group PLC announces the appointment of Chaacha Mwita as the Group’s Chief Executive Editor (CEE). In this capacity, Chaacha will oversee all content production divisions,” read part of the notice.
Furthermore, the company stated that Chaacha’s strong accomplishments as a journalist and media leader will benefit the organization as it aims to strengthen its journalism and uphold its values of boldness and independence.

In addition to overseeing content support divisions, Chaacha will report to the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) and assist in providing strategic leadership for the entire organization.

Chaacha has a solid foundation in journalism with over 20 years of extensive local and international experience in leadership, communication, and policy engagement.

According to the notice, the newly appointed Chief Executive Editor has made significant contributions to enhancing editorial capacity in newsrooms across Africa, focusing on media sustainability, business model selection, and specialization.

His professional background includes conducting comprehensive media assessments in several African countries, including Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, eSwatini, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda. Chaacha has worked in reputable organizations serving in various leadership roles.
He has worked in several organizations such as the Standard Group PLC-where he served as Editorial Director and recently on the Board-as well as the Nation Media Group, Aga Khan Foundation, African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC), and Thomson Foundation (London, UK).
Chaacha’s Career
Beyond corporate responsibilities, Chaacha has also made important contributions to international panels, such as the Africa Means Business Advisory Panel under Thomson Foundation (UK), working closely with esteemed institutions like Oxford University’s Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE), the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Strathmore Business School (SBS), and the University of Ghana (Accra).
Chaacha holds a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree from the University of Nairobi and a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi’s School of Journalism.

Additionally, he earned an MBA from the University of St Gallen, Switzerland. He has also participated in executive development programs at the Haas School of Business (University of California at Berkeley, USA) and the University of Luxembourg.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Chaacha is a published author and previously served as a Fanning Fellow for Journalism at the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio, USA.
He has undertaken consultancies for prestigious organizations such as Internews and UNICEF, contributing his expertise to projects spanning media development, social budgeting guidelines, and the development of parliamentary training materials.
