NLC Acquisition for Road Project on Three Construction Lots
The proposed land acquisition will facilitate construction of the Barpello–Tot–Sigor–Marich Pass Road (B17), which spans 124 kilometers and is divided into three lots.
Lot 1 covers 43 kilometers from Barpello (Moru) to Tot Junction. Lot 2 stretches 46 kilometres from Tot Junction through Chesegon to Kopasi River, while Lot 3 covers 35 kilometres from Kopasi River through Lomut and Sigor to Marich Pass.
According to the commission, the project is intended to improve road connectivity along the corridor linking the affected areas in Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.
The acquisition process is being conducted under the Land Act, with the NLC acting on behalf of KeNHA to secure the land required for the road construction.
Landowners To Submit Compensation Claims
The Commission has directed all persons with interests or claims in the affected land to submit written compensation claims by the day of their inquiries.
Individual claimants must submit a written compensation claim, a copy of their national identity card, Personal Identification Number (PIN), land ownership documents, and bank account details.
Companies with interests in the affected land must submit copies of their certificate of incorporation, CR12 document, company KRA PIN, and the identity cards and PINs of their directors.
The NLC has listed its headquarters at Ardhi House, third floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi, as a location where claimants can seek assistance.
Interested parties may also contact the commission’s county coordinators’ offices in Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot.
“Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation,” the commission chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Saggaf Alawy, directed.
