Govt Lists Land Parcels for Compulsory Acquisition Across Four Counties

The National Land Commission (NLC) has listed the affected landowners in the compulsory acquisition of land required for railway, road, and water infrastructure projects in Kajiado, Kiambu, Nyeri, and Migori counties.

Land parcels acquired will be used by the government in the Nairobi–Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Phase 2A, three road projects and the Gatundu Water Supply and Sewerage Project.

The Commission has also set dates for inquiries where landowners and others claiming an interest in the affected properties can present their claims in a Gazette Notice dated September 25.

Nairobi–Naivasha SGR Phase 2A

In Kajiado County, the NLC is acquiring additional land for the Nairobi–Naivasha SGR Phase 2A on behalf of the Kenya Railways Corporation.

Two parcels were removed from the earlier schedule, including Ngong/Ngong/21721, registered to Francis Wambua Katuto, measuring 0.0578 hectares, and Ngong/Ngong/21722, registered to Anna Nduku Katuto, covering 0.0467 hectares.

The revised schedule contains Kajiado/Kitengela/76381 at 0.2153 hectares.

It also adds 0.0516 hectares of Ngong/Ngong/111726, owned by Jackson Waita Gatuto and Rhoda Mutio Kimeu, and 0.0467 hectares of Ngong/Ngong/111721, owned by Jackson Waita Gatuto, Rhoda Mutio Kimeu, and Margaret Ngina Musina.

The inquiry will take place on November 19, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Scheme 6 Kandisi Chief’s Office, according to the Commission.

Two Road Projects in Kiambu

The Commission has also listed the land required for the Gatiiguru–Ithanga–Gakungu and Gakungu–Kamahuha–Mbombo Road Project, which is being implemented on behalf of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).

Two properties were deleted from the previous schedule: L.R. 6727/3, registered to Stephen Kirubi, at 0.4749 hectares, and L.R. 6727/56, registered to Felista Wanjiru Ndungu, at 0.0271 hectares.

The current list includes L.R. 6727/29, registered to Gatuthu Kaburu Theuri, at 0.0871 hectares, and L.R. 6727/49, registered to Leonard Nduati Kariuki, at 0.1020 hectares.

Five more parcels have been added: L.R. 6727/87 at 0.1013 hectares, L.R. 6727/100 at 0.0945 hectares, L.R. 6727/89 registered to Antony Maina Kirubi at 0.0973 hectares, L.R. 6727/90 at 0.1764 hectares and L.R. 6727/85 registered to Felista Wanjiru Ndungu at 0.0271 hectares.

Landowners will appear before the Commission on November 26, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Kirimiri Chief’s Office.

Gatundu Water Supply and Sewerage Project

Another acquisition will be carried out for the Gatundu Water Supply and Sewerage Project on behalf of the Athi Water Works Development Agency.

At the Gatundu Water Supply Project, the commission will acquire Kiganjo/Handege/1152, measuring 0.024 hectares, belonging to Stephen Kibe Mbogo.

The sewerage component covers L.R. 116/2 (0.47178 hectares) and L.R. 254/1 (0.21983 hectares).

On October 14, 2026, at 10 a.m., the commission will hold an inquiry meeting with affected water supply project landowners at the Kiganjo Chief’s Office.

Landowners for the acquired sewerage parcels will be considered on November 26, 2026, at Juja Town Chief’s Office.

Mukurweni–Ini–Gakonya Road Project

In Nyeri County, the acquisition for the Mukurweni–Ini–Gakonya Road Project will be undertaken on behalf of KeRRA.

However, the latest schedule deleted earlier parcel Gaturi/Kigongo/1889, covering 0.442 hectares, and replaced it with Gaturi/Kigongo/1899, also covering 0.442 hectares.

Nyeri County inquiry is set for October 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Upper Hill Chambers, 6th Floor.

Toku Bridge and Approach Roads

In Migori County, the NLC has published a revised schedule for the Toku Bridge and Approach Roads Project.

According to the Commission, the inquiry will be held on November 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Kitere Chief’s Office.

The Gazette notice contains 14 deleted parcels, one corrected entry, and 11 additions.

Documents Required for NLC Compensation Claims

In addition to listing the affected landowners, the NLC has directed that persons claiming an interest in the land must present documents supporting their claims during the inquiries.

Required documents by the Commission include identification documents, KRA PIN certificates, ownership documents, and bank details.

“Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation, a copy of an identity card (ID), Personal Identification No. (PIN), land ownership documents, and bank account details,” Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy, Chairman, National Land Commission, stated.

For companies, the Commission requires corporate documents including the certificate of incorporation, CR12, company KRA PIN, and identification and KRA PIN details of directors.
