The National Land Commission (NLC) has announced plans to compulsorily acquire land in Lamu and Kwale counties to facilitate two major road projects.
According to notices published in the Kenya Gazette on September 18, the acquisitions will facilitate the LAPSSET Corridor Road in Lamu County and the Dongo Kundu Bypass Access Road in Kwale County.
In Lamu, the NLC has listed parcel entries for acquisition under Gazette Notice No. 15162, issued by the chairperson, Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy.
The acquisition is being undertaken on behalf of the LAPSSET Corridor under Section 110 of the Land Act, 2012.
“Notice is given that the National Land Commission intends to acquire parcels of land on behalf of the LAPSSET Corridor in accordance with Section 110 of the Land Act, 2012 for the LAPSSET Corridor Road in Lamu County,” part of the notice read.

The largest parcel listed is LR No. 28108, with an acquisition area of 218.90 hectares.
Numerous subdivisions under LR 13601, with an acquisition area of 4.009 hectares, will also be affected.
Interested persons can inspect plans showing the affected land at the Commission’s offices at Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi, or at the Commission’s County Coordinator’s office in Lamu County during official working hours, the Commission said.
The Commission explained that it would publish a notice detailing the inquiries in the Kenya Gazette, in accordance with Section 112 of the Land Act, 2012.

Dongo Kundu Land Acquisition in Kwale
Separately, the NLC has announced the compulsory acquisition of land in Kwale County for the Dongo Kundu Bypass Access Road.
Gazette Notice No. 15163 identifies Kwale/Ngombeni/1035, measuring 0.0213 hectares, as the parcel proposed for acquisition.
The acquisition is being undertaken on behalf of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) to facilitate the Dongo Kundu Bypass Access Road project and upgrade to bitumen standard.

NLC on Public Inquiry
The NLC has scheduled a public inquiry into the proposed acquisition at the Ngombeni Chief’s Office on October 22, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m.
During the inquiry, the commission will consider the propriety of the proposed acquisition, compensation, and other relevant matters.
Persons with an interest or claim in the affected land will have an opportunity to present their claims and matters relating to the proposed acquisition.
Documents Required from Claimants
The NLC requires persons claiming an interest in the affected Dongo Kundu land to submit a written claim for compensation together with a copy of their identification card, Personal Identification Number, relevant land ownership documents and bank account details.
“Interested persons should inspect plans of the affected land at the offices of the Commission at Ardhi House 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi and County Co-ordinator’s Office in Kwale County during official working hours,” NLC directed.
