The Government has announced plans to compulsorily acquire private land for a proposed military air base on behalf of the Ministry of Defense in a Gazette Notice dated October 30.

According to the National Land Commission (NLC), the proposed Wajir Air Base project is among several public infrastructure and development projects for which the government intends to acquire privately owned property.

NLC further identified parcel number Wajir Township Block 2/1424, measuring 0.8401 hectares, registered to Elyas Sheikh Abdinoor as the property intended for acquisition.

“Notice is given that the National Land Commission intends to acquire parcels of land shown in the schedule hereunder on behalf of the Ministry of Defense in accordance with section 110 of the Land Act for Proposed Wajir Air Base Land Acquisition: Title Deed Number Wajir Township Block 2/1424 in Wajir County,” part of the notice read.

The notices, issued under the Land Act (Cap. 280) by NLC Chairman Dr Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy, also cover the LAPSSET Corridor project in Lamu, two bridge projects in Narok, Kisii and Bomet counties, land adjoining Kenyatta Barracks in Nakuru, and the Murang’a Cluster Water and Sewerage Project.
