Police officers from Loitoktok Police Station have nubbed a suspected cross-border car theft dealer. Muchiri was caught with a stolen vehicle, whose owner was found unconscious in a guest house.
While undertaking their routine patrol, the officers got hold of Muchiri who was behind the wheel of a white Toyota Dyna mini truck. Muchiri attempted to escape, leaving behind the truck with the registration number KCG 508, but the police caught up with him. He was arrested and taken to Loitoktok police station.
It was established that the owner of the car was a 32-year-old man known as Evans Havi. Havi was found unconscious at Kalii’s guest house in Loitoktok. It is believed that Muchiri dragged Havi before making away with his vehicle.

Smuggled cars sold at throwaway prices
Upon interrogation, the police found Muchiri to be a key player in an organized syndicate that had been smuggling vehicles in a neighbouring country for sale at throwaway prices.
The suspect is currently being held in Loitoktok Police Station where he is undergoing processing as detectives prepare to arraign him in court. The recovered vehicle is being held as an exhibit.

Crime has surged as a result of harsh economic times
According to a report by the National Council of Administrative Justice (NCAJ) crime surged in the 2023/2024 financial year. Police have processed at least 104,769 serious crimes nationwide up from 97,301 in 2022/2023.
This surge, according to the NCAJ, is attributed to high levels of unemployment in the country and the harsh economic times.
