The National Youth Service (NYS) has officially released the shortlist of candidates for recruitment into specialist officer cadet and private positions, setting the stage for the next phase of interviews in the 2026 intake.
The announcement, published on June 9, 2026, confirms that hundreds of applicants have been selected to proceed to the next stage of interviews and selection.
Candidates on the shortlist include those who applied for Specialist Officer Cadets at the graduate and diploma levels, as well as Private Officers in both technical and general-duty categories.
According to the NYS, the shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews starting Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
However, candidates will not be required to report on a single day, as details of the exact date, time, and venue will be sent directly to each applicant via email or telephone.
The release of the shortlist follows months of applications and screening, with the service seeking to recruit qualified young professionals and skilled workers into its ranks.
The NYS plays a key role in training and deploying youth in various national development programs.
Interview Requirements and Official Warning
Shortlisted candidates have been advised to prepare all required documents in advance of the interview dates to avoid disqualification.
According to the notice, each candidate must present an original and a copy of the national identity card, academic and professional certificates, a curriculum vitae, and any other relevant testimonials.

This single category outweighs all others by a wide margin, pointing to a deliberate effort by the service to create broad-based entry opportunities for youth across the country.
At the same time, the figures show a sharp focus on infrastructure and logistics-related work.
High numbers in categories such as plant operators, masons and drivers, each with more than 80 shortlisted candidates, suggest the service is preparing manpower for construction, transport and field operations.
The health sector also stands out as a major area of recruitment.
Community health nursing alone accounts for 86 positions, while clinical officers take up 44 slots, pushing the combined health intake to more than 130.
ICT remains a key priority, even if not the largest area overall.
With 65 ICT officer positions and 22 ICT assistant roles, the sector accounts for a total of 87 slots.
Beyond these, technical trades form a strong backbone of the recruitment.
Positions such as motor vehicle mechanics, electricians, plumbers and welders all post significant numbers, underlining a clear shift toward practical, skills-based employment.
