Okello Max, whose full name is Julius Okello McRymboh, is a prominent Kenyan singer, Songwriter, and Entertainer known for his unique Afro-fusion sound infused with Dholuo flavor.
He is one of the rising African artists to watch and has a significant presence in the Kenyan music industry.
He attended Moi University in Eldoret, where he pursued Media Studies and developed a passion for music. His music blends cultural foundations, and he is known for hit songs and collaborations like ‘Healing’, ‘Boss’, and ‘Christmas Kolor’, ‘Nakufa’ with Bensoul and Amlyoto, ‘I Gatchu’ with Bien, ‘Diana’, ‘Ahere’ with Willy Paul, and ‘Mali Safi’ with Nadia Mukami and Prince Indah.
Okello has been a background vocalist for artists like Dela, Sauti Sol, Bien, Bensoul, Nviiri the Storyteller, Polycarp, Savara, and Chimano before entering the spotlight in 2019, after featuring on Sauti Sol’s hit ‘Extravaganza.’
In December 2025, Spotify identified him as a ‘growing sensation’ in the year as his music views and streams climbed the chart.
In the year, he also garnered a following of more than 340K monthly listeners.

Music Career
In past interviews, the singer revealed that he grew up in a family where music was always present and started singing in his uncle’s choir, Mr. Francis, as a young boy.
“I grew up in a very big family. I’d say we used to bond over music. Every evening after supper, we would sit and sing hymns together. Music was it for us, I believe, because a lot of us sing, but I do it professionally,” he explained in an interview.
In 2019, he featured on Sauti Sol’s hit “Extravaganza,” which marked his entry into the spotlight. He auditioned for the Kenyan TV show Talanta Mtaani the same year, finishing as second runner-up, and gained a contract afterward.
2019 also saw him release his first song, ‘Kiss,’ which has slowly gained momentum.
Okello’s Music Achievements
Max Okello was signed under the Sol Generation Records after previously working with the group as a background vocalist.
He has performed at the Blankets and Wine Festival, an annual event celebrated in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda that showcases African culture, community, and live music, and is set to perform again on December 21, 2025.
