Siaya Governor James Orengo has advised former Prime Minister Raila Odinga not to rush into any political agreements with other parties.
Speaking at a funeral service in Alego Usonga Constituency, Orengo emphasized the importance of careful consideration before entering any political pact.
“I urge that we take our time and observe the outcomes of consultations. One should not rush into seizing any political opportunity that arises,” Orengo stated.
Drawing on his extensive political experience, which spans multiple administrations since the era of founding President Jomo Kenyatta, Orengo reinforced his message that Odinga should proceed cautiously when considering a political alliance.
He stressed that any potential political deal should come after thorough and diligent consultations.
“Let the discussions with the people continue, and I believe we will find the right way to address the current situation,” Orengo reiterated.
Orengo Cautions Raila Against Rushing to Sign Political Deals
Orengo’s comments come as anticipation builds for Odinga’s upcoming political announcement, particularly following his loss in the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid.
Several media outlets have speculated that Odinga may be contemplating a political deal with President William Ruto’s government, which could see him being awarded several positions across various departments.

While Odinga was originally expected to share his political direction during the ODM party’s 20th-anniversary celebrations last Friday, he postponed the announcement, indicating he would reveal his next steps within the week.
“I will continue consulting to ensure our actions prioritize the needs and rights of Kenyans. We are not here to joke,” Odinga stated.
Ruto Allies Woe Raila to Join Government
In the wake of his AUC loss, several leaders, including President Ruto, have been actively courting Odinga, anticipating him to engage actively in local politics.
Some of Ruto’s allies are advocating for the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, which suggests amendments to the 2010 Constitution to introduce a Prime Minister position—potentially creating a significant role for Odinga in the government.

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei and Belgut MP Nelson Koech have been spearheading this move.
Cherargei argued that Odinga’s leadership and experience should not be wasted and suggested he could serve as Prime Minister. Koech also highlighted the value of Odinga’s insights in shaping the country’s political landscape.
Gachagua’s Warning to Odinga
On the other hand, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Odinga against entering into a political agreement with President Ruto, claiming such a decision could damage his legacy.
Gachagua referred to alleged human rights violations, including abductions, under the Kenya Kwanza administration as reasons for Odinga to distance himself from the government.
He further warned that President Ruto might betray Odinga, just as he was betrayed, leading to his impeachment as Deputy President.
