The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement after five people perished in a grisly road accident along the Nakuru-Gilgil Highway near Kikopey Trading Centre today, on Thursday, January 26 at around 5:00 am.
Taking to its official Twitter account, NPS said that four adults and a minor lost their lives after two matatus rammed into a stationary lorry that was point towards the direction of Nairobi.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that two matatus belonging to Nairobi and Mololine Bus Companies rammed onto a lorry that was stalled along the climbing lane facing towards Nairobi direction,” the NPS statement read in part.
Police in Nakuru have since launched investigations into the matter as NPS condoles with the families of the bereaved, wishing the injured a quick recovery.

“We appeal to motorists and all road users to adhere to traffic rules by driving within the legal speed limits, refraining from driving under influence of alcohol and any other form of recklessness on the road,” NPS said.
According to statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), OVER 4,000 people perished from road accidents in 2022.
NTSA director Alice Chesire said road accidents cause losses of more than Sh310 billion annually.
She said the economic impact caused by road carnage is heavy and has been on the increase every year.
