Internal Security Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo, through his Widows Empowerment Program, has extended support to a partially blind widow in Sota Kochia village, Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County, by building her a new home and facilitating the restoration of her eyesight.
Roselida Atieno had been living in a dilapidated house with a leaking roof before receiving assistance.
At 73, Roselida had endured years of struggles.
As a widow with no means and no shelter, her world had been clouded by blindness for years.
Mama Roselida had faced unimaginable loss, having lost all 10 of her children. Partially blind for the past three years, she continues to live with grace, surrounded by fellow widows who offer her solidarity and support.
But through the Widows Empowerment Program, light was restored. She was not only given a new house to call home but also received medical support for a life-changing eye surgery.
The new shelter looked modern, and spacious, which elevated her status in the community.
“I am here in Kochia. These people have been so good to me. God is so good to me. That is a shoe, I can see that it is a shoe. I can see my phone now, and if someone calls, I can receive and answer them,” Atieno said with a smile on her face.

PS Raymond Omollo Builds Home, Restores Sight for 73-Year-Old Widow
Edwina Okombo, Roselida’s caregiver, said that when they came to visit her during the handover of the house, she was unable to see, as she had cataracts in both eyes.
“After taking her to the hospital, tests revealed that the cataracts could be removed to help her regain her sight,” she said.
“With the support of Raymond Omollo, she underwent surgery on one eye. Due to unstable pressure, doctors couldn’t operate on both eyes at once. However, they successfully operated on one eye—and now she can see.”
PS Raymond Omollo’s program offered more than a roof over Rose’s head and responded to the full weight of her hardship.
Edwina Okombo expressed gratitude on behalf of the Tang Chon Ber widows from Kochia, acknowledging the immense support Dr. Raymond Omollo had extended to the widow.
She noted that his act of kindness had touched the hearts of many and brought joy, vision, and hope to Roselida’s home.

About the Widow Empowerment Program
The Widows Empowerment Program, which supports widows nationwide, is dedicated to uplifting vulnerable women through economic empowerment initiatives.
The program aims to foster dignity, compassion, and social inclusion for widows across Kenya.
It is committed to restoring hope, building resilience, and promoting self-reliance among widows.
Many of these women continue to face heightened vulnerability due to economic challenges, social isolation, legal barriers, and emotional strain.
Under the patronage of PS Raymond Omollo and the leadership of Program Director Victor Ayugi, the initiative has rolled out a range of socio-economic interventions across different regions in Kenya.
In Kenya, widows make up about 15% of the population, with research showing a staggering 50% lose their spouses before the age of 40.
This means that millions of women are forced into lives of isolation and despair.
There are over 8 million widows in Kenya, each carrying a unique and often heartbreaking story.
