An unmuted microphone caught Chinese President Xi Jinping talking about the possibility of living to 150 with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during their meeting on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
The incident occurred when Putin and Xi, accompanied by Kim Jong Un, led a delegation of more than two dozen foreign leaders to view a military parade in Beijing marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
The three leaders were chatting via interpreters in a conversation that was partially picked up by microphones.
The audio is not clear but at the start, Xi can be heard telling Kim in Mandarin: “I’m also very happy. It’s been a long time since we last met.”
Kim replies via a translator that it’s been six years since they last saw each other.
Xi can later be heard saying in his native language: “Now people in their 70s are still young.”
Interpreter Informs Putin of Xi’s Words
Afterwards, a Russian interpreter is seen translating Xi’s words to Putin
“Earlier, people rarely lived past 70, but these days at 70 years…,” the interpreter said.
As Putin and Xi approached Tiananmen Square’s rostrum, Putin’s interpreter was heard in Chinese saying: “Biotechnology is continuously developing. Human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become, and (you can) even achieve immortality.”

Xi responded to the conversation in Chinese while off camera, stating that: “Some predict that in this century humans may live to 150 years old.”
At this point, Kim can be seen smiling and looking at Putin and Xi.
However, it was not clear whether the conversation was being translated for him.
On the other hand, Putin can be heard speaking in Russia, but it was clear what he was saying.

Putin Confirmation
Putin confirmed later that he and Xi had discussed the subject on Wednesday.
He explained that modern medical methods can improve health and lead to a different life.
The President noted that life expectancy varies by country but is expected to increase over time.
Modern means of health improvement, medical means, even surgical ones related to organ replacement, allow humanity to hope that active life will continue differently than it does today.
The average age varies across different countries, but life expectancy is expected to increase significantly.
