Radio Maisha has gone off-air in Nairobi and other regions in its vicinity. In a statement on Tuesday, September 19 afternoon, the Standard Media Group outfit confirmed that it was forced to go off following a technical hitch.
However, the radio station assured its fans that efforts to resolve the problem were underway.
In the meantime, Radio Maisha urged fans to follow its broadcast through its website.
Radio Maisha is one of the media stations under the ownership of the Standard Media Group. Despite having a glorious past as a powerhouse in Kenya’s radio broadcasting, the station has experienced a mass exodus of popular presenters who have since found new homes.
Among the popular presenters who have departed the Mombasa Road-based media house include Ali Hassan, Mbaruk, and Billy Miya.
Retrenchment Notice
Two weeks ago, the Standard Group announced a fresh round of retrenchment coming months after another one in 2022.
In a notice sent to its employees, the media group cited the need to restructure business to adopt more efficient structure as one of the factors.
In the memo the standard group cited reasons including the current economic situation and increasing competition in the media landscape.

Additionally, the media group said that the high cost of living was another factor.
“This is to notify all members of staff of the Company’s intention to declare redundancies that will affect employees across several departments,” the statement read.
The standard media group has had a history of laying off its employees in the recent past, which worsened during the Covid 19 period.
This has also been the case in other media houses such as the Radio Africa Group.
