A General Service Unit (GSU) police inspector attached to the elite recce squad was arrested on counts of robbery with violence in Ruiru Town Kiambu County on Friday, November 17.
Inspector Nahashon Ekidor Namese who is attached to the elite unit in Ruiru, Kiambu County, attempted to steal Ksh.200,000 from a man in a money transfer agent shop.
According to reports, inspector Ekidor trailed an unsuspecting man named Peter Kimani Njenga to a money transfer agent shop.
Njenga who was from a nearby bank, wanted to load the cash into his mobile money account.
How it Happened
Confirming the incident, Ruiru Sub-County Commander Alex Sikondi said Njenga had already handed over the Ksh.200,000 to the agent before the incident occurred.
“When the agent was counting the money, he was left with Ksh.54,100 in his hands. This is the amount of money Ekidor managed to grab after threatening the M-PESA agent with a gun,” said Secondi.
However, immediately after Ekidor took the money, Njenga rushed out of the shop and sounded an alarm.
Inspector Ekidor was surrounded by a mob forcing him to shoot in the air to try and escape with the money.
Nonetheless, the rogue cop was disarmed and arrested by a contingent of administration police officers guarding a bank near the M-PESA agent shop.
“He is with us right now and the case and investigations against him have already commenced.
We thank the residents of Ruiru town for their courage to raise an alarm which helped the police arrest the criminal,” stated Sikondi.
In footage shot by a phone, armed police officers can be seen protecting Ekidor from an angry mob that was baying for his blood in front of a bank in Ruiru town.
Moments later, the police officers managed to safely transport Ekidor to a police station.
Additionally, inspector Ekidor is expected to be charged with a crime in court on Monday, November 20 and faces robbery with violence among other charges.
