Richard Etemesi has stepped down from his role as a Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited.
In a notice dated July 1, the Company Secretary, Judy Nyaga, announced that the resignation will take effect from June 30, 2025.
“This concludes 33 years of distinguished service with the Bank, including as a dedicated member of the Board since 2017,” the Board said.
The Board extended its deepest gratitude to Richard for his unwavering commitment and outstanding stewardship during his tenure.
“Richard has been a pillar of exemplary leadership, providing invaluable guidance and strategic insights that have contributed greatly to the Bank’s success. We wish him every success in all his future endeavours,” reads part of the notice.
Richard started his career as Senior Projects Manager at Kenya Tourist Development Corporation (KTDC) between 1986 and 1988.
He then worked as a financial management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand Associates, based in Kenya.
He joined Standard Chartered Financial Services in July 1991 in the same capacity.

He began his senior leadership journey at Standard Chartered as the Head of Global Corporate Banking in Nairobi in April 1994.
From June 1997 to June 2000, he was the Executive Director for Corporate & Institutional Banking in Lusaka, Zambia.

Earlier, between January 2004 and October 2007, he was the Chief Financial Officer and Finance & Strategy Director for Kenya and East Africa.
He also served as Chief Executive Officer of the bank’s Uganda operations from July 2000 to December 2004, stationed in Kampala.
From November 2007 to December 2013, Richard served as Chief Executive Officer for Kenya and East Africa, based in Nairobi.

Before this, from January 2014 to August 2017, he was the Chief Executive Officer for South and Southern Africa, also based in Johannesburg.
He was responsible for the overall growth and development of our business within the region.
Since September 2017, Richard has also held the role of Vice Chairman for Africa, operating out of Johannesburg, South Africa.
Education Background
Richard holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting and Finance from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
He also has a Master of Science in Finance from Strathclyde Business School.
