The Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) comprises of nine members who were sworn in at the National Palace early Thursday, April 25, morning, amidst threats of gang attacks.
The council is set to lead the country following over 30 months of governance by the outgoing government.
At the same time, a letter dated April 24 announcing the official resignation of former Prime Minister Ariel Henry surfaced. Henry was stranded abroad due to gang attacks on the Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince when the ceremony took place.
In his letter, Henry recognized the current situation and conveyed his sympathy for the losses and suffering experienced by the Haitian people throughout his time in office.
“I hereby acknowledge the state of affairs and present the resignation of my government. I sympathize with the losses and sufferings endured by our compatriots during this period,” he said.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, who has been leading the government in the absence of the former Prime Minister since late February, was appointed as the interim Prime Minister by decree issued during the Council of Ministers meeting on April 24.
He will serve in this capacity until the formation of a new government, which will be established by the Presidential Council along with a new transitional Prime Minister.
