President William Samoei Ruto on Tuesday, August 1 asked for an apology from Cabinet Secretaries and other top government officials who arrived late for a function at State House.
A visibly angry Ruto made the demands while presiding over the signing of performance contracts of Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and heads of parastatals at State House, Nairobi.
The President told the CSs to write a letter explaining why they arrived late and that they should not cite traffic as the cause of their lateness.
“For those who came late, who are members of the Executive. I will be expecting a written explanation from you. Those who claim of traffic does not add up,” Ruto stated.
Additionally, the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua slammed Cabinet Secretaries for showing up late and for being obsessed with foreign trips.
“You can’t arrive at an event when the President is already seated. Why would you come late? How do you explain that? Who did you go to see and yet today was the most important day for you to sign contracts?
Since you appointed me, I have only been late once, it was only when you confused me because you said you would leave State House at 7:30 am so that we meet at the airport, but you left here at 6:30 am,” he said.
Furthermore, the deputy President said that the CSs should cut on traveling outside Kenya and focus on attending media interviews and going to the ground to speak to the people on the ground.
Moreover, Digital Strategiest Dennis Itumbi confirmed that a host of top government officials were barred from accessing State House after arriving late for the event.
“State House, Gate D, is literally a parking lot as top GOK officials who came in late for Performance Contract signing are locked out. CSs, PSs, parastatal bosses all parked, hoping they will be allowed in. Meanwhile, the President demands a written explanation from each of them,” Dennis Itumbi stated.
