Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo was awarded the prestigious Digital Economy Personality of the Year Award.
The Eighth Africa Digital Economy Awards (ADEA) 2023 event was held at Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi on Friday November 10, 2023.
“I have this evening been named Africa Digital Personality of the Year at the eighth edition of the Africa Digital Economy Awards in Nairobi,” said Owalo on his social media platforms.
Notably, the CS was got the Digital Personality of the Year award because of his outstanding contribution to driving digitalization in Kenya.

In his role as CS for the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, several initiatives and innovations that have helped Kenya become a digital hub on the continent have been made.
Owalo has led the Kenyan government’s efforts to become an ICT innovation hub and unlock the digital economy’s potential, including the implementation of the National ICT Policy, Digital Economy Blueprint, Kenya Start-Up Act, Data Protection Act, Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, and the Konza Technopolis project, among others.
Furthermore, his leadership has resulted in the robust digitization of government services via the eCitizen platform and the implementation of the paperless government agenda.
Also, over 174 digital hubs in communities have been established.
Further, there has been provision of over 25,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots across Kenya.
Kenyan Made Smartphones
Notably, the rollout of ‘made in Kenya’ smartphone manufacturing plant is also one of his major achievements.

During the gala night, ADEA celebrated and honored Africa’s digital champions, innovators, creativity, and inventions across multiple fields whose contributions have significantly impacted the digital growth and security of the African economy.
