President William Ruto has called on Members of Parliament to expedite the passage of the Finance Bill to facilitate electricity connections for Kenyans.
Speaking at Mitunguu in South Imenti during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for Meru Maziwa Millers Ltd., President Ruto emphasized the importance of the bill in enhancing the country’s infrastructure.
“I want to tell MPs to pass the Finance Bill as fast as possible so that Kenyans can get connected to electricity,” Ruto stated.
Accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto also addressed the financial wellbeing of farmers, assuring them of the government’s commitment to improving their economic conditions.
“I have talked with your leaders, and we must make sure our farmers have money in their pockets,” he added.
Presentation of Budget
This comes as National Treasury CS Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u is set to present the 2024/2025 budget statement in Parliament.
President William Ruto’s government has drafted a Ksh4 trillion ($31.1 billion) budget for 2024/25, up from 3.75 trillion shillings it approved last June for the current fiscal year.

Parliament has already approved the proposed spending plan, but the separate finance bill aimed at filling the coffers of the cash-strapped government could lead to an acrimonious session.
According to the draft budget, the national government could get 2.2 trillion shillings, the consolidated fund services that is mainly used for servicing debts gets Ksh1.2 trillion while counties will share out Ksh400 billion.
Among the notable inclusions in the proposed 2024/2025 budget is introduction of the motor vehicle tax at 2.5% of the value of the vehicle or a minimum Ksh5,000 and capped at Ksh100,000 standardizing VAT and introduction of eco levy on electronics, diapers, lithium batteries and tyres.
