President William Ruto has revealed dates when repeating Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students will be joining universities across the country.
Speaking during the handing over of Lenana Primary School in Nairobi on Monday, January 13, the head of state said that the government will ensure there are no delays in marking exams.
Further, he explained that students who will sit the newly introduced Mid Year National Exams will be able to join the rest of the candidates on time.
Therefore, they will be joining the various institutions with the rest in September.
“They now have an opportunity to improve their qualifications in the mid-year series examination. We will make sure that the exams are done and marked in record time so that when the students pass the test, they can join the rest who are joining in September.
“It is not right to condemn some of our students on account of one or two subjects which they have failed for one reason or another. It is necessary for us as a government to give our students a second chance,” said Ruto.

Ruto Explains Reason for Introduction of the Mid-Year Exams
According to the president, the exams were introduced to offer students an opportunity to redeem themselves.
Additionally, he noted that the move was necessary to increase the transition rate of students into institutions of higher education.

Then we can have more children transiting into higher education and courses that are necessary” said Ruto.

Introduction of the New Exams
While overseeing the release of the 2024 KCSE exams, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the exams will be done in July 2025.
Further, the CS noted that the newly introduced exams will favour repeating candidates or those who missed the previous exams because of various unexpected reasons.
“The examinations will target candidates wishing to repeat the KCSE examination and those who may have missed sitting the exams due to sickness or other unexpected hardships,
“Adult candidates may also consider registering for the July series examinations from this year,” announced the CS.
