President William Ruto has stated that the government will be purchasing land from absentee landlords worth Ksh1 billion in the coast region.
Speaking in Kilifi on November 1, as he began his development tour, the head of state noted that the pieces of land will then be given away to residents.
Further, Ruto noted that the move will help relocate needy people who were living in squatters and give them a place to stay.
Also, he noted that the government had already set aside the amount, adding that it was a promise he had given to the residents of Kilifi and intended to keep it.
Speaking in Kilifi, he stated that the government was keen on helping the jobless and landless, noting that the government had already set aside Ksh1 billion for purchasing pieces of land.
“The first one billion shilling has already been budgeted for and we want to organize so that all absentee landlords are paid so that we can give the pieces of land to Kenyans so that they stop living in squatters,” he stated.
