The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has reported significant progress on development projects across different sectors in the Nyanza region.
According to a press release dated March 21, 2026, projects in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira counties reveal that housing, water and sanitation, and market infrastructure are the region’s strongest-performing sectors.
“The Government has recorded significant and sustained progress across eight strategic development sectors in the Nyanza Region, as President William Ruto’s administration advances its commitment to equitable infrastructure investment and economic transformation across the country,” read part of the press release.
The ministry stated that several projects are either nearing completion or already operational across multiple counties.

According to the Ministry, housing emerged as the largest investment sector and the most direct source of employment in the region, generating over 1,000 jobs daily at active construction sites.
In Kisumu, Lumumba Affordable Housing Programme is 56% complete, with over 9,000 units under construction.

Additionally, the Ministry of Interior noted that Migori’s Mabera Affordable Housing Programme is nearly finished at 98%, while Homa Bay has fully completed its housing projects.
Siaya and Kisii counties continue to make strides with 3,832 and 2,116 units under development, respectively.
Meanwhile, Nyamira remains a priority for accelerated construction due to slow progress.
Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa stressed the government’s aim to close the infrastructure gap between urban centres and historically underserved communities.
“Thousands of homes are under construction, markets now provide clean water and electricity, and water projects are delivering completion in communities that have waited for decades,” said Flora Mworoa.

The Ministry of Interior added that Homa Bay has expanded its TVET programs. Similarly, Migori County is building multiple hostels, while Kisii and Nyamira are slated for prioritization in the next phase of implementation.
Water and sanitation projects were also identified as top performers, with several achieving full completion and delivering essential services to communities that had waited for decades. Additionally, the Economic Stimulus Programme markets have improved trading conditions by providing clean water and electricity, supporting local commerce and livelihoods.
However, the ministry acknowledged that transport and industrial park projects continue to face delays due to financing challenges, contractor issues, and land compensation disputes, assuring that efforts are ongoing to resolve these issues.
