Safaricom in partnership with the Education Loans Board (HELB) have launched HELB Mobile Wallet which will allow students to receive loans directly to their phone.
The laon accounts will now be created through the M-PESA Mini App, where beneficiaries can access the services.
The services will include accessing HELB upkeep, withdrawing funds, repaying loans, applying for more loans, access mini statements and viewing the loan status.
“This partnership with Safaricom will empower beneficiaries with even more convenience and greatly enhance the experience when accessing funds and our services. All HELB beneficiaries can now access all our services through the HELB Mini App or by dialing *642# where they can apply for subsequent loans, access their HELB upkeep funds, withdraw funds, view their loan status, access their statements, and repay loans, all from feature phones, an Android and iPhone app,” said Charles Ringera, CEO – HELB.

The HELB mini app can be accessed under the ‘Services’ section, of the main Mpesa app.
HELB beneficiaries will key in their phone number, key in the activation code sent to the number to activate mini app and set a password.
Beneficiaries yet to register their mobile number with the loan provider will need to key in a phone number registered to the same National ID linked to their loan account to connect their numbers and activate the Mini App.
