Sakaja Publishes All Nairobi Plots Set for Auction; How to Check

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has issued a notice to select landowners within Nairobi County who risk losing their lands and plots.

The Nairobi City County in 72-page notice placed in a local daily listed properties in Nairobi whose owners have defaulted on land rates and warned that they would be auctioned unless they pay the outstanding rates.

Governor Sakaja warned that failure to pay the land rates will result in enforcement action in accordance with the law.

“The owners of the following listed properties are advised to ensure that they Pay outstanding land rates arrears owed to the Nairobi City Government. OTHERWISE the properties shall be subject to penalties, interest and enforcement actions including AUCTION by Nairobi City County Government,” reads part of the notice.

List of Land Rates Defaulters in Nairobi

All land rate defaulters in different Sub-Counties within Nairobi County were listed in the notice and are expected to make payments through listed procedures.

The auction-threatened properties are in different sub-counties in Nairobi including Westlands, Starehe, Ruaraka, Roysambu, Mathare, Makadara, Lang’ata, and Kasarani Sub-Counties while some are unzoned.

Other properties listed in the notice are within Kibra, Kamukungi, Embakasi West. Embakasi East, Embakasi Centra. Embakasi North, Dagoretti South and Dagoretti North constituencies.

As per the notice, some of the landowners have arrears to the tune of Ksh31 billion shillings as outstanding land rates. Among the listed landowners are individuals, societies and penbsion schemes including the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).   

However, the County government issued a directive to the landowners who appear in the list but have paid their land rates asking them to visit their offices for reconciliation.

“If you have paid your land rates and you appear on the list, please visit the county offices for reconciliation,” the notice adds.

How to Check List and Make Payment

For all landowners with unzoned plots in Nairobi County, you can check the list through a digital copy that can be accessed through a listed Nairobi City County land defaulter’s website

Also, the affected landowners were advised that the City County Government operates a NO CASH policy in revenue collection.

“Customers are advised to make payments through the Nairobi City County Government Revenue collection accounts once they obtain their invoices,” adds the notice.

To clear the outstanding rates, one can make the transaction through different bank payments listed in the notice which include paying using

Cooperative Bank: – Account Name: Nairobi City County Revenue Collection Account, Account Number: 01141232396600, Branch Name: City Hall

Equity Bank: -Account Name: Nairobi City County Revenue Collection Account, Account Number: 1600284509139, Branch Name: Kenyatta Avenue, Supreme Centers.

One can also pay using USSD Number *647# and more information can be accessed through calling 020 7247 047, 0730 047 047 or sending an email to info@nairobi.go.ke for any queries or assistance.

Land rates are levies imposed on all parcels of land and payable to the county governments. Upon full payment of all rates, one is issued with the rates clearance certificate which is conclusive evidence that all rates due and interest accrued have been fully paid.
