A Special Senate Committee has today kicked off hearings of the impeachment proceedings against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza .
The hearings kicked off will at 8am at the Senate Chambers.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is chairing the committee.
The first order of the committee was to discuss rules and procedures of determining the case as well as consider any preliminary issues.
Governor Mwangaza is facing accusations of nepotism, illegal appointments, unlawful dismissal of the constitution and statutory functions of county organs.
The first term Governor is facing accusations of the appointing her husband to county offices.

The MCAs also accused the Governor of directing Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital to spend all revenue at source, directing county officers to participate in advancing the interest of Baite TV, a private media station, and misconduct relating to the nominating of County Executive Committee Members.

On December 14, 68 out of 69 MCAs of the Meru county assembly voted to impeach the governor.
Both parties will appear before the committee to support their case.
Mwangaza is accusing MCAs of running a cartel at the assembly, blackmail, greed, corruption and intimidation.
She is also accusing the ward representatives of organizing a violent demonstration at the Assembly and violating public finance laws.
The Khalwale led committee will present its report to the committee of the whole house which will then consider the recommendations by voting to approve or reject them
Impeachment voting at the Senate is done by delegation voting,meaning that only county elected Senators be allowed to cast their votes
