Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna revealed before the Senate on Tuesday, November 14, that together with his colleagues, he played a drinking game on the lies told by President William Ruto during the State of the Nation address.
Sifuna was giving reason for failing to show up during the delivery of the speech.
According to him, he anticipated that the Head of State would tell so many lies, and he would not be able to sit quietly without raising questions as directed by the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula.
Instead, Sifuna stated that he played a drinking game with friends which had one rule. Every time they believed the president told a lie or a half truth, they took a shot of whisky.
Subsequently, Sifuna stated that they followed the speech to the end and were too drunk when Ruto concluded his speech because he had told so many lies.
“The rules of the game were very simple, every single time, you thought that a statement of the president was untrue or partially untrue, you had to take a shot of whisky.
“By the end of the game we were extremely drunk because of the half-truths and open lies that we believed the president was telling,” he stated.

Senator Sifuna Gives Other Reasons Why He Missed the Speech
At the same time, the Azimio Senator noted that he would not have been able to keep his cool during the speech knowing well that the president would have told lies.
“Knowing myself and knowing the president, I chose not to attend the president’s address to the National Assembly
“Because I knew for a fact that at the first instance where I felt he was giving misleading information to the country, I would not have managed to keep quest. I would have been strongly pushed to say something,” added Sifuna.
Also, he explained that he was not certain that the speaker of the national Assembly, Moses Wetangula, would extend grace to him, adding that he would have been suspended for speaking up.
“Mr. speaker (referring to Amason Kingi), you are aware of the character of most of us in this house. In your communication about the address, you reminded us that the head of state should be heard in silence.

“Although the speaker of the senate may be lenient because they know me, I am not very sure whether the speaker of the National Assembly would extend some of the courtesy we have been given in this house,” lamented the Senator.
