As the debate about mysterious abductions in Kenya rages on, the six abductees who were freed are still traumatized by what they went through. Benard Kavuli who was among the individuals abducted before December 25, has revealed details of his 15 days in captivity.
While addressing the media, his lawyer, Shadrack Wambui, who accompanied him on Wednesday, January 8, at Ngong Police Station to record a statement about his ordeal, stated that Kavuli was assaulted and treated in an inhumane manner.
“Our client had to endure a situation meant to intimidate, cow, and cajole him so that he refrains from addressing some of the wrongs he perceives in his country,” Shadrack said.
The lawyer added that Kavuli was interrogated about his posts on X criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government.
Lawyer narrates details of Kavuli ordeal at the hands of his abductors
“He was taken in, questioned, brutalized, and beaten up because of the views he holds as a Kenyan citizen, a youthful leader who understands very well the political landscape of the country. He was being questioned in relation to that,” the lawyer explained.
Shadrack further narrated that Kavuli’s head and beard were shaved against his will. He also revealed that his client was blindfolded throughout his captivity and could not see his abductors.
“He did not have the opportunity to see the faces of his abductors, but at the very least, he was able to recognize their voices,” the lawyer revealed.

According to the lawyer, Kavuli was warned not to disclose the ordeal he had gone through after his abductors released him.
Kavuli was found abandoned in the Moi’s Bridge area on January 6, after spending 15 days in solitary confinement. He had been abducted on December 22, 2024.
Court directs Inspector General, Interior CS and DCI boss to appear before it
Apart from Kavuli, other abductees released on Monday, January 6, include Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Gideon Kibet (alias Kibet Bull), and Ronny Kiplang’at, who is Kibet’s brother.
However, another individual, Steve Mbisi, who was allegedly abducted, is still missing.
He was last seen on the morning of December 17, 2024, when four masked men abducted him from his home in the Kathagaita area. Despite efforts by his family and authorities, his whereabouts remain unknown.

Following the recent wave of abductions, the High Court has ordered Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Ibrahim Amin to appear in court on January 27, 2025. They are required to present a report on the recent abductions and explain their actions regarding these cases.
This order follows their failure to appear in court on January 8, 2025, as previously directed.
