Former Governor Mike Sonko has offered boxer Conjestina Achieng’ a new chance to recover as she embarks on her third stint at a rehabilitation Center.
The former boxing champion has been readmitted at the Mombasa women rehabilitation center where she will start her treatment afresh under the care of a group of specialists, including counsellors, consultants and physiatrists.
“My special thanks go to the Mombasa Women’s Hospital management led by the chief administrator, Hon. Amina Abdalla for accepting us back to the facility,” said Sonko,
This comes days after the former Nairobi Governor refuted claims made on social media that the politician abandoned Conjestina amid reports made that her health was deteriorating.
Sonko Offers Conjestina a Third Chance
Conjestina’s story has been a roller coaster of triumphs and challenges, with her struggles against mental health issues making headlines over the years.
In the statement, Sonko claimed that despite his efforts, Conjestina’s family watered down his efforts to help the former boxer.

Mike Sonko also shared a phone call conversation with Conjestina’s family, disclosing how she left his team after a misunderstanding.
According to Sonko, the boxer was upset after Sonko failed to secure her a plane ticket from Mombasa to Nairobi as flights were fully booked at the time.
“I needed to go to court, and a warrant of arrest could have been issued against me if I failed. Conjestina was upset that I did not get her a plane ticket and put her on the bus. My team also travelled with SGR,” Sonko posted on social media.
Additionally, it was alleged that the former boxer expressed her displeasure when Sonko’s team went to pick her up from the bus stop and demanded to go back home to Siaya.

Conjestina’s Career.
Ten years ago, Conjestina was on the verge of vanishing as she faced financial and mental health issues since she left boxing in 2011.
Conjestina began her career as a boxer in 2000 after graduating through the youth soccer ranks in Makongeni Estate, Nairobi
In September 2022, the boxing champion was admitted to Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Hospital in Miritini.
