St. Joseph’s Girls Senior School in Kitale has dismissed reports circulating online that a student was arrested on the school premises in possession of a firearm or ammunition.
In a statement dated June 24, 2026, the school’s administration termed the claims false and accused Citizen Weekly of spreading misleading information that could damage the institution’s reputation.
“This is to inform the general public that there has been no incident of a girl being arrested in our school over a gun or ammunition. What is being circulated by Citizen Weekly is in bad taste,” read part of the statement.

The school maintained that no such incident had occurred and challenged the investigating officer allegedly involved in the reported arrest to publicly clarify the circumstances of the case, including where and when the alleged ammunition was recovered.
Chief Principal Rosebella K. Munzala urged members of the public to disregard the reports, stating that the claims are intended to tarnish the image of the school.
“Kindly ignore such information that is intended to tarnish the image of the school,” read part of the statement.

The school further urged the public to disregard the claims, warning that the spread of false information could harm the reputation of its learners, staff, and the institution as a whole.
It also revealed that it was consulting its legal team and considering legal action against individuals responsible for originating and disseminating what it described as defamatory claims.
The school reiterated its commitment to student safety and welfare and encouraged members of the public to seek verification directly from the administration regarding any information concerning the institution.

Student Allegedly Arrested With a Gun
The claims, which circulated widely on social media, alleged that a student at St. Joseph Girls’ Kitale was found in possession of her father’s pistol and three rounds of ammunition on Saturday.
It also alleged that police officers conducted a search at the school, recovered the firearm and ammunition, and launched investigations into the incident.
The reports further claimed that the student’s parent, said to be a police officer, had called for her daughter to face the law and that students from Form Three and below had been sent home indefinitely.
St. Joseph’s Girls Senior School Kitale, formerly known as St. Joseph’s Girls’ High School, is a public girls’ boarding institution located in Trans Nzoia County.
The school is situated approximately four kilometres from Kitale Central Business District along the Kitale–Webuye Road.
It is currently under the leadership of Chief Principal Dr. Rosebella K. Munzala.
