The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is investigating circumstances that led to the death of a suspect who allegedly committed suicide at the Makongeni police cells in Nairobi.
The police informed IPOA of the incident on Friday, October 28 after the body of Musyoka Kathukia, 25, was found hanging by a window of the cells.
The suspect allegedly used lace from his underwear to take his life.
According to police report, the 25-year-old suspect was being held at the station over claims of threatening to kill his wife.
Moreover, the station officers discovered that the suspect had taken his life when they opened the cells to provide breakfast to detainees.

Furthermore, the other suspects who were held in the cells informed the police that Kathukia told them he did not want to go to court.
Nonetheless, the body was later processed and moved to the mortuary.
IPOA noted that they are investigating the incident to take appropriate action.
Moreover, IPOA is mandated by law to investigate such incidents and make recommendations to the Office of Director of Public Prosecution.
The agency wants to determine the possibility that the man died by suicide using a lace or whether police negligence is to blame.
Likewise, in September, the body of Dennis Mochoge, 33, who had been detained for stealing was found dangling on window grills long after he had died by suicide at the Juja police station.
The Police reported that the suspect used his pair of trousers to hang himself. However, the motive behind the incident is yet to be uncovered.
