Swarm of Bees Attack Pastors and Mourners at Funeral

20 mourners including a group of officiating pastors were attacked by a swarm of bees at a funeral.

The funeral, which had just begun, was interrupted by the shocking incident at  Huduma Estate in Ngurubani, Mwea, in Kirinyaga.

The attendees had gathered to bid farewell to Faith Njeri Murigu, a former teacher, when the unexpected attack occurred, forcing them to flee for safety.

However, Reverend Irene Gitari, who was present, recounted how some of the mourners stayed to pray fervently, but the bees continued to swarm, eventually forcing her and the others to seek safety.

According to a doctor who attended to some of the mourners, 20 of them had to undergo treatment. However, the incident left several people, including family members and clergy, injured.

“We were in the burial service for Mwalimu Faith Njeru and in fact, the service happened in church. It went well until we came back home to finalize it,” the reverend said.

“The bees came from a tree that was in the home and attacked people because there was someone who was wearing perfume or oil that was smelling like honey. The bees chased away everyone. Some of us had to come back and try to bury the body,” a witness said.

Moreover, Ngari Muthang’ato, the master of ceremonies, confirmed the incident, stating that it unfolded shortly after the funeral procession returned from a service at ACK St. Luke Wanguru Church.

As the group prepared to proceed to the gravesite, the bees launched their attack.

Despite the chaos, the burial was eventually completed at night with a few people present.
