Transport along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway has come to a standstill after residents of Emali Town blocked the road in solidarity with ongoing nationwide protests.
The demonstrators, largely made up of youth and local residents, have used stones and logs to block both lanes of the highway, preventing movement of private and public vehicles.
Consequently, passengers moving to various places have been forced to walk as buses and trucks remain parked off the road.
At the same time, the Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association has warned motorists to steer clear of the area.
