President Donald Trump has publicly challenged members of Iran’s armed forces to lay down their weapons and seek defection, framing it as a decisive moment that could determine the future of the Middle East and the Iranian state itself.
In a statement addressing the Iran-US conflict, Trump said that Iranian military personnel, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), military police, and other security forces, were being offered full immunity if they ceased fighting but warned that those who refuse would face “guaranteed death.”
Speaking to the nation and supporters on social media, Trump framed the ongoing military campaign against Iran, dubbed Operation Epic Fury by the U.S., as both a defensive necessity and a chance for a fundamental political shift within Iran.
“I am once again calling on all members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, military, and police to lay down their arms; they will only be killed’, he said.

Trump urged Iranians that this is the time to stand up for the their own people: “Now is the time to stand up for the Iranian people and take back your country…We will give you immunity, and we will give you the right side of history.”
“You will be perfectly safe with total immunity, or you will face absolutely guaranteed death’, the president added.
The president’s message goes beyond a simple call for a ceasefire or surrender; it links military defection to broader political change. Trump did not limit his appeal to just combatants, also inviting Iranian diplomats around the world to seek asylum and participate in shaping a “new and better Iran,” a point that underscored the dual military and political aims of his approach.
Trump’s comments come during some of the most intense phases of the U.S. offensive against Iran, launched late last month in coordination with Israeli forces. The campaign has included air strikes on key military infrastructure, ballistic missile and drone launch sites, and command centres linked to the IRGC. One U.S. official summary noted that U.S. and allied forces had hit hundreds of targets within Iran as part of efforts to degrade its military capabilities.

The offer of immunity has a clear tactical purpose: to weaken Iran’s military cohesion by encouraging defections and reducing resistance, while presenting the option as a way for Iranian forces to avoid further bloodshed. U.S. officials argue that such incentives could save lives and potentially lead to a quicker resolution if significant elements of Iran’s armed forces choose to abandon their roles.
However, the approach also exposes big risks. The broader conflict has already seen casualties on all sides. The Pentagon confirmed that several U.S. service members were killed in retaliatory actions by Iranian forces, which have launched missiles and drones at U.S. and allied bases in the region. Trump vowed to avenge those deaths, describing the mission as essential to protect American interests and prevent Iran from posing long‑term threats.
Trump’s comments, offering immunity on one hand and threatening certain death on the other, mark a stark moment in the U.S. approach to the conflict. By laying out a binary choice for Iranian forces, the president has tied military strategy together with political messaging aimed at encouraging both internal dissent and the erosion of unified resistance within Iran’s ranks.
