Alina Habba faced a tough crowd on The View on Wednesday, April 29, when the talk turned to one of the biggest jobs in Washington.
The 42-year-old former personal lawyer for President Trump had been invited to discuss her experience at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner during last Saturday’s shooting. Things shifted quickly once the hosts started asking about the Justice Department.
Joy Behar asked her whether she was interested in Pam Bondi’s old spot as attorney general. Habba responded by saying it had not crossed her mind.
“Let me say this,” she replied. “I have never had a conversation with the president or anybody in the administration to become the attorney general.”
She went on to talk about her time as acting U.S. attorney in New Jersey. During that stretch, she pointed out, Camden saw its first murder-free summer in 50 years.
Habba added that she serves the people of New Jersey and serves at the pleasure of the president. She called it the greatest honor to serve the country in any role.

The moment grew even more charged when Sunny Hostin jumped in and asked if Habba thought she was qualified to be attorney general.
Before she could answer, moderator Whoopi Goldberg stepped in, called for a commercial break, and offered Habba the chance to respond first. Habba chose to pass.
The exchange left viewers divided. Some thought the hosts came at her too hard with loaded questions and cutting remarks. Others said the back-and-forth was fair, given how close Habba has stayed to Trump over the years.
Habba has been part of Trump’s circle for some time. She handled his legal work before he returned to the White House.
She later took on the role of acting U.S. attorney in New Jersey, a move that sparked considerable legal pushback.
The courts eventually ruled against her remaining in the post. She stepped aside but stayed on at the Justice Department as a senior adviser under Attorney General Pam Bondi. In that job, she helps oversee U.S. attorneys around the country.
Is Alina Habba ready to serve as AG?
Her flat denial on The View came as names were being floated for future leadership roles in the administration.
Habba made no mention of wanting the top job and gave no sign she had been approached about it. She simply said the topic had never come up in her talks with the president or others.
The segment began on lighter ground, discussing the dinner shooting, but soon moved into sharper territory.
Hosts pressed her on how the Justice Department is operating under Trump. Habba held her line and tried to steer the conversation toward results on crime and other priorities.
The clip went viral, and reactions online came in fast as her supporters praised her poise under pressure and her ability to stick to her message.

Critics pointed to past legal setbacks in New Jersey and wondered if someone with her background should even be considered for bigger jobs.
A few called the whole exchange awkward, especially the way the commercial break cut off the question about the qualification.
Even with her denial, the appearance kept Habba in the spotlight. She has moved from handling Trump’s personal cases to working inside the Justice Department.
That path keeps drawing attention, both positive and negative. Some see her as a loyal fighter who delivers results where it counts. Others point to the court battles over her New Jersey appointment as evidence of her lack of readiness for higher posts.
The View has a long record of bringing in guests from different sides and letting sparks fly. This incident followed the usual script, starting with one topic and sliding into sharper debate.
