Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will hire another 40,000 teachers before 2027. President William Ruto made this announcement while speaking at Nairobi School on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
Ruto admitted that many schools have gaps in the number of teachers.
He stated that most teachers in the majority of the schools across the country are paid by the board of management (BOM).
Ruto said TSC hired 76,000 as of December 2024 and he will ensure the number moves to 110,000 before 2027.
“It is the reason why I made a decision to hire more teachers, and 76,000 teachers have been hired by December 2024. I intend to hire another 40,000 teachers to make it 110,000 teachers by 2027,” Ruto said.
The Head of State explained that education is a key pillar of his government since it is the greatest equalizer.
Ruto said all children become equal once they find themselves in an institution of learning.
Additionally, he stated that the government intends to expand infrastructure in schools by building more classrooms, laboratories and other facilities.
“We will continue to close the gaps in teachers, and infrastructure and to make sure that we have additional students coming in,” he said.
Ongoing Projects in Schools
He revealed that the government has just completed 16,000 classrooms in various schools across the country.
“I deliberately said that for Nairobi City, we must do another 5,000 classrooms because many students in the city attend schools that are not proper,” he said.
Ruto said he allocated Ksh1 billion for Nairobi in the last financial year and he will provide another Ksh1 billion this year.

He addressed individuals stating that he would serve for one term.
Ruto said he never believed that he would rise to become the head of state let alone serving for two terms.
“There are people talking about one tern two or three terms. I want to let you know that earlier, some people did not even think I would have any term as president. But who is God?’ Ruto said.
