Police have made significant progress in the fight against insecurity and terrorism activities carried out by Al-Shabaab, particularly in Garissa County.
According to security agencies in the county, a multi-agency team conducted a successful raid on a make-shift Al-Shabaab camp in the DigDiga area of Fafi Sub-county.
The operation, Police say, was initiated in response to local complaints about harassment by militants who were reportedly planning attacks on security personnel in the region.
The multi-agency team followed up on the complaints and promptly launched investigations into the matter. Their investigations led them deep inside the Digdiga Forest where they discovered the Al-Shabaab hideout.
Details of the Security Operation
During the raid, the team ambushed the militants while they were preparing food, resulting in the deaths of two suspects, while the others fled with serious injuries.

“They ambushed them while they were preparing game meat, and two were gunned down while others fled with serious injuries,” the Counter Terrorism Policing Kenya reported.
The operation led to the recovery of several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, rounds of ammunition, grenades, radios, and indoctrination materials among others.
“Several recoveries were made during the operation, including AK47 rifles and ammunition, grenades, radios, indoctrination literature, AAA batteries, animal snare, and jerrycans among others,” they said.
Authorities praised the local community for their cooperation and urged residents to continue reporting any suspicious activities related to Al-Shabaab as part of ongoing security efforts in the region.
“The security teams applaud the locals for their cooperation while also urging them to promptly report cases related to Al-Shabaab activities,” read the statement,
Al-Shabaab Militants Kill 4 Special Unit Officers in Mandera Attack
This development comes a month after an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County, which resulted in the death of four security officers.
The four who were part of a larger group of 15 which consisted of 12 Special Operations Group (SOG) officers and three National Police Reservists (NPR).

Reports noted that the group was reportedly ambushed by the Al-Shabaab militants while patrolling the Har Sigenge area.
The ambush resulted in a fierce fire exchange, which tragically led to the death of the four SOG officers and left three others critically injured.
Preliminary reports said that the terror attack happened at the border of Banisa and Mandera West Sub-counties in Mandera County on the evening of Thursday, July 12, 2024.
